About

I am the eldest of 7 children, 4 of us with the same parents and 3 step-siblings that my dad had later on (he is a very busy man)… Only a few of my immediate family still lives in Trinidad.  My parents and a few of my siblings live on the east coast.  Hence the reason I live on the west coast.

I have been cooking since the very tender age of 8 yrs, assisting in the kitchen with meals.  We spent a lot time at my grandma’s house which was always full of adults and kids, therefore there were always meals and treats being prepared.

The smells of the kitchen always enticed me.  I would try to make the kitchen chores my duty which had it’s downfall of having to do the dishes, to include pots and pans for 15 people, it was torturous.  To this day I still hate doing dishes!

But when a dish is cooking and the aromas consume your senses, there is only one greater feeling in the world for me.

Now, there are a few women in my family that inspired my cooking creativity.  The first is my grandma, who could cook for a large crowd, have them lick their finger and beg for more.  Another is my Aunty Marlene, who could bake and create the most delicious deserts. And last but not least, is my Aunty Maureen. One of the greatest women I ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Even though I love all of them dearly, Aunty Maureen taught me to be strong, independent, hard working but most of all, taught me love no matter what. If you showed lots of love then hopefully it would spread on to others. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but I still keep on trying.  I love you Aunty Maureen!

I have been living in the United States for almost 14 years now, never having left my country before then. I believe I have grown so much personally but as well with my cooking.  You see I do not aspire to be a world known chef or a culinary genius, I just want to to feed people food that makes them tingle with joy.

I really love bring people together through food, I miss the days when people would get together once a week and enjoy each others company through the pleasures of food and cocktails. Laughing, joking, kids playing, sometimes with an adult or two getting drunk and disorderly (and only one or two). I miss that. When did everyone get so serious and isolated.

For me cooking has always been about sharing with others.  How often do we cook a fabulous meal just for ourselves.  Granted I do it a lot ;) , because I don’t really care to eat out.

I want to bring back the love and togetherness!  Will you join me doing so?
